Republican candidates have flipped four seats and Democrats can claim one in the tightly contested race for control of the House of Representatives, according to CNN projections,
CNN projects that Democrat John Mannion will defeat Republican Rep. Brandon Williams in their critical House race in Central New York, flipping the district back to Democrats two years after Williams narrowly won it for the GOP.
And Republican Rob Bresnahan Jr. will unseat Democratic Rep. Matt Cartwright in Pennsylvania’s 8th District, flipping a district that had supported Donald Trump in 2020, defeating the incumbent who has served in the House since 2013.
Earlier, CNN projected that GOP candidates would flip three seats in North Carolina. The Republican Party is defending a very narrow majority in the House.
Here are the other key projections from CNN:
Democrat Ilhan Omar in Minnesota’s 5th District: Omar will win a fourth term, defeating Republican Dalia al-Aqidi.
Democrat Eric Sorensen in Illinois’ 17th District: Sorensen will also win re-election, defeating Republican Joe McGraw.
Democrat Jahana Hayes in Connecticut’s 5th District: The congresswoman defeats opponent Republican George Logan, in a rematch of the 2022 contest.
Republican Brian Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania’s 1st District: The former FBI special agent and federal prosecutor will win re-election, beating Democratic challenger Ashley Ehasz.
Democrat Henry Cuellar in Texas’ 28th District: The conservative Democrat will defeat Navy veteran Jay Furman. Cuellar is under indictment on charges of bribery, money laundering and acting as an agent of the government of Azerbaijan.
Democrat Lateefah Simon in California’s 12th District: Simon will succeed Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee, who made an unsuccessful bid for California’s Senate seat.
Democrat Tom Suozzi in New York’s 3rd District: Suozzi wins re-election in the critical Long Island district, securing a full term after his victory in a special election earlier in the year.
